Producemobile provides for people in need

Reporter: Joey Maya Safchik, ’21

Before the massive green truck even pulls up, hundreds of people are in line, awaiting the Evanston Producemobile.

Sponsored by Interfaith Action and the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the Producemobile comes stocked with fresh fruits and veggies. On the second Tuesday of every month, people stock up at the Robert Crown Community Center.

According to site organizer Mary Beth Roth, the fresh – and totally free – produce feeds about 1000 people each time the truck makes a stop.

The truck is intended to nourish all low-income Cook County residents. No ID is required.
